Research Background
This doctoral research is divided into two parts. The first part explores and describes the Hong Kong Chinese cancer caregiver experience through the use of traditional data collection methods such as interviews and focus groups, as well as through drama workshops. At a later stage, the data collected will be used to create a drama performance. This drama production serves as a platform for open exchange and discussion between all research participants and stakeholders such as cancer patients, cancer survivors, caregivers (family and friends), doctors, nurses, social workers, counsellors, cancer organization workers, and interested parties. The aim is to use drama to provide enlightenment, empowerment and emancipation for the cancer caregivers. It is the hope that the drama production will be an educational tool for people who face challenges in cancer caregiving. If you are aged 18 or above with direct or indirect experience in cancer caregiving, you are invited to participate in this project because you can shed insight for the research. In so doing, you are in the position of helping present and future cancer caregivers in enhancing their vital role as caregivers to cancer patients.
